Artistic beginnings

Born in Oslo, Norway in 1950, Morten Krogvold’s deep-seated passion for photography emerged early and evolved into a profound artistic expression over the years. His journey as a photographic artist and educator is a narrative of creativity and inspiration.

A diverse artistic legacy

Krogvold’s artistry spans a wide array of subjects, but it’s his evocative black-and-white portraits that have set him apart. These portraits, capturing the essence of artists, politicians, and various prominent figures, have made him a household name in Norwegian photography since the 1980s. His enduring commitment to analog photography, cherishing both the darkroom process and his profound connections with subjects, defines his work.

Beyond celebrity portraits, Krogvold’s lens explores the intricacies of humanity, the wonders of nature, and the timeless allure of classical architecture. His numerous exhibitions across the globe, including the Nordic countries and many other countries in Europe and Asia, as well as in the United States, bear witness to his ability to evoke profound emotions through a diverse array of subjects.

His career has also been deeply intertwined with humanitarian efforts, which has led him to collaborate with organizations such as CARE, Plan, NORAD, UNICEF, and Norwegian People’s Aid. Notably, his “Women Care” exhibition with CARE toured from Norway to Bangladesh and Pakistan, addressing vital women’s issues. In 2017, his work with Plan International Norway documented the lives of disabled children in Nepal, spotlighting the power of photography in humanitarian advocacy.

Krogvold’s impact reaches far beyond that of an artist, as his passion for teaching and mentoring has left an indelible mark on the world of photography. He has generously shared his expertise with countless aspiring photographers through workshops and seminars conducted across the globe, and his engaging and informative teaching style has made him a sought-after course instructor.

Krogvold’s dedication to the art of photography has been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the prestigious Norwegian Photography in 1989, and the Hasselblad Master in 2003. In 2005, he was honored with the prestigious decoration of Knight of 1st class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav for his contributions as a photographic artist.
